What is Rolfing?
Rolfing® Structural Integration is a form of bodywork originally developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf (1896–1979).
It involves manual work on the connective tissue (fascia), combined with movement education and the cultivation of self-awareness and proprioception.
Rolfing aims to support the reorganization of the body’s structure in relation to gravity by enhancing functional awareness, improving postural coordination, and increasing the integration between different parts of the body.
From a broader perspective, this process can also be understood as supporting the body’s capacity for self-regulation. Through increased sensory awareness and improved structural balance, the nervous system may find more efficient patterns of organization, contributing to a greater sense of ease, stability, and overall mind–body balance.
Structural Integration is typically offered as a series of one-to-one sessions lasting approximately one hour. These sessions are designed to support the body’s capacity for self-support, spatial orientation, and adaptive response, while helping to reduce or release restrictions in the fascial system and habitual patterns of posture and movement.
Over time, these patterns may contribute not only to physical discomfort in muscles, bones, and joints, but also to changes in breathing, energy levels, and emotional tone. By addressing the body as an integrated whole, Rolfing supports a more coherent relationship between structure, movement, and lived experience.
I am currently based at Mouvement Intérieur – Inner Movement, 225 rue Notre-Dame West, Montreal.
