The Method - Improve your professional practice

MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH YOUR PRACTICE

Move In Mind™ is a method aimed at increasing proprioceptive awareness, improving movement coordination and self-regulation, and achieving excellence in any kind of performance. It is an incomparable instrument for all those bodyworkers, movement trainers, instructors, physical therapists, movement teachers, and holistic therapists and coaches who want to increase their effectiveness by integrating a new approach, and for those "movement professionals" practicing and teaching performing arts (dance, theatre, etc.), sports, yoga, pilates, etc. who want to get the best results in their practice and performances.

Move In Mind is based on the principles of Structural Integration and devised to turn gravity into a resource and achieve excellence in movement performance by taking advantage of the link between visuo-spatial imagery, proprioception, and movement planning. The goal is to enable individuals to master gravity and achieve high-precision movements while maintaining the ability to give different qualities to movements.

Move In Mind has been revealed to be a powerful tool both in performing arts/sports and in rehabilitation after injuries, particularly brain and spinal cord-acquired injuries.

It is a method particularly suitable not only for dancers and performing artists, but also for bodyworkers, manual therapists, structural integrators, movement rehabilitation practitioners, occupational therapists, movement coaches/trainers/educators, personal trainers, life coaches, performing arts coaches, holistic healers, and pathfinders in the field of mind-body interconnections, and for all those practitioners who want to explore movement and “practical neuroplasticity” in order to enable their clients to create new functional movement patterns and habits.

THE PRINCIPLES BEHIND THE METHOD

Besides strength and flexibility, a superior movement performance has to be properly supported by complex involuntary postural adjustments, which affect movement quality and fluidity, balance, coordination, and therefore the overall movement execution.

Move in Mind is based on the idea that by purposefully influencing the basic processes underlying movement preparation and control, people can improve movement execution. To do this, individual-specific mental images with strong spatial, motor, and proprioceptive features can be used to affect motor planning and execution.

Such images aim at promoting the engagement of the involuntary processes involving mostly our deepest, intrinsic muscle fibres (i.e. tonic fibres), which support every movement by regulating our balance and posture in relation to the gravity field.

In Move In Mind, specific mental images are integrated in a series of movement explorations and floor exercises to obtain effective core engagement in performing any movement task, and consolidate the use of mental images supporting movement execution.

FASCINATING FASCIA

When we learn to target and use only what is "essential", that means to work at maximum capacity in the most efficient, physiologic, economic and integrated manner possible, we can achieve effortless movement, strength and flexibility (the opposite to the old “no pain, no gain” theory). This becomes easier as soon as we become aware of the most amazing tissue in our body: our fascia. Fascia is much more than “a wrapping around the muscles.” Fascia is the “organ system of stability and mechano-regulation” (Varela & Frenk 1987) that gives shape to our bodies.

Every cell in our body is hooked into—and responds to—the tensional environment of the fascia, also called the “neuro-myo-fascial net”. Fascial elasticity has not been recognized until recently, and the mechanisms involved are still being studied, but it’s clear that if we want to train our body-mind system in a complete and effective manner, we have to train our whole neuro-myo-fascial system. Engaging long myofascial chains through appropriate whole-body movements is one of the best ways to train our neuro-myo-fascial system, and it is exactly what Move In Mind does.

THE ONLINE COURSE & CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Finally the Move In Mind Method is available through an Online Course and a Certification Program.

Since 2019 Move In Mind has become part of the Morales Method® Academy of Structural Integration (MMASI) Certification Programs and named Morales Method® Move In Mind™.

The Online Course is also the prerequisite to accessing the Training to become a Morales Method® Move In Mind™ Certified Practitioner and Instructor.
